XOX Kit Patch Notes

XOX Kit Video

This is a demo of some of our new drum voices.
A 16-step drum sequencer is triggering the voices. Sequence selection, decay, and pitch are mapped to MetaModule’s knobs.

External Audio Path:

  • Main audio outputs are on channels 1 and 2.

Internal Audio Path:

  • The Closed Hi Hat is routed through an Accent Module, which receives a quarter-note clock.
  • The Closed and Open Hi Hats are summed together at unity gain with choking engaged.
  • The Kick, Snare, Hi Hat, Clap, Tom, and Rimshot are all mixed and compressed together using the Pressed Duck.

Internal CV Path:

  • A Count Module is used as the master clock source.
  • The drum sequencer triggers all the drums and the accent pattern.

MetaModule Knob Mappings:

Knob Set 1 (Macros):
A - Kick decay
B - Snare decay
C - Hi Hat decay
D - Clap decay
E - Tom decay
F - Sequence pattern selection
U - Kick pitch
V - Snare pitch
W - Hi Hat pitch
X - Clap pitch
Y - Tom pitch
Z - Rimshot pitch

Knob Set 2 (Mixer):
A - Kick volume

C - Hi Hat volume
D - Clap volume
E - Tom volume
F - Rimshot volume
U - Kick pan
V - Snare pan
W - Hi Hat pan

Nice! Can the x0x plugin for VCV be downloaded anywhere? Doesn’t seem to be in the library.

Here’s the github repo with installers: Releases · 4ms/XOXDrums · GitHub

Thanks! I’ve downloaded and installed the plugin from that link, and I can load the drum modules in VCV, but the .vcv file that @kira4ms shared still won’t load — the error message says:

This patch includes modules that are not installed:
4msDrums/Accent
4msDrums/Clap
4msDrums/HiHat
4msDrums/Kick
4msDrums/Rimshot
4msDrums Snare
4msDrums/Tom

It looks like the plugin uses the slug 4ms-XOXDrums rather than 4msDrums, so I wonder if this patch was made with a different version from the one available on Github?

(Can anyone else get this to load in VCV?)

Installed fine on my Windows 11 system. I just copied the correct file from GitHub link and rebooted VCV Rack. It found it and created a folder and installed it.

Ah sorry I meant can you load the .vcv patch file shared at the top of the thread — not the x0x plugin but the patch.

OK…cool! I was thinking the modules.

I had the same error message.

Same error here with the latest version

Hey sorry about that, can you let me know if these files work for you? They run fine at 48k/64 block size on MM and the VCV error went away on my end.

Thanks Ross, works great now. The drums sound awesome! I recommend playing around with the Thickness knob on the Hi Hat module.

I can’t seem to add the XOX in VCV rack. Did I place the folder wrongly ?

Probably, yes. Try this:

  1. Delete that “XOXDrums-2.0.3” folder
  2. Go to Release Release: v2.0.3 · 4ms/XOXDrums · GitHub, click on the mac-arm64 vcvplugin link to download the file.
  3. Copy the downloaded vcvplugin file to the root of your vcvrack/s plugins-mac-arm64 folder.
  4. Restart VCvrack.
  5. VCVRack will automatically unpack and install the new XOX plugin folder for you, you should then see a 4ms-XOXDrums folder and the modules should be visible in the module chooser in VCVRack.

I can’t get the plugin to load. I used the instructions from above and what else I found. However, the plugin is not installed on restart. I am using Win10…
Does anyone have an idea?

click the Download All button top right of this page:

copy the zip file onto your SD card and open it.
reboot the 4MM, go into plugin page and install all.
(make sure you’re on the latest v2.02)

As you may have read: “I use Win10”. Therefore, your explanation misses the point. But thanks anyway.

why is windows 10 significant to your situation? Kindly explain how so…

‘VCVRack will automatically unpack and install the new XOX plugin folder for you, you should then see a 4ms-XOXDrums folder…’ →
thx: THIS works for me (VCV 2.6.4 on Mac OS 15.5 Sequoia) - but:
‘…and the modules should be visible in the module chooser in VCVRack’ → nope! I can neither see the modules in VCV nor can I load the patch: I get the same error message as gabrielroth etc.

If you start typing “xox” in the module chooser, do you see them appear ?

.. and to double check, do you see this in your rack plugins-mac-arm64 folder?
