Working MIDI devices

we seem to have quite a few topics detailing usb midi devices NOT working.
I think it would be useful to have a list of devices known/tested to WORK

this might be useful for 4ms in the future to include on the website somewhere… but here is a good place to capture experiences.

to keep this topic clean/simple , some ‘guidelines’

  • ONE post per user, with ALL devices.
where necessary, edit your post to include new devices that you have found to work
  • do not repeat existing entries.
no need, to repeat those that someone else has already listed
  • no discussion, just listing of devices
  • do NOT include devices not working.
create a new topic for devices you are having issues with

the last point is very important, there are lots of reasons why something may not work, so should be explored away from this topic.
ofc, once you get it working, then you can list it here

testing regime / patch

this is how I tested, I used the simplest way possible to avoid any other potential issues!

all done on the MM itself !

  • create new patch
  • add Resonator (Rings)
  • Resonator : v/oct - midi map, Note: Pitch
  • Resonator : strum - midi map, Note: Gate
  • Resonator : odd/even - panel out 1/2

note: by default midi pitch/gate mapping are to midi channel 1.

MM Limitations

  • direct connection only
    usb hubs do not work
  • MM is a USB host
so only USB midi class compliant devices are supported.

I used the usb-c → usb-a adapter supplied with 4ms MM where necessary.

Blokas MidiHub I used for midi din (and midi trs via adapter) to usb-b with a few different instruments.

Amazing - thank you!

FaderFox UC4
Elektron Digitone (but only with a specialised Din > usb3 cable).
However, Usb B to Usb C cable or Usb B to Usb A using supplied adapter do not work.

Clarification on devices, they only work when they are in device mode as Meta is only able to host and not be a device itself, which may seem obvious to some but is a bit limiting when working with a USB host router and trying to send midi to the Meta from the router

So here’s my list for working:
Launchpad pro older version
Launchpad pro mk3
Squarp hapax device port only
Oxi one device mode only

Midi Devices not working:
MRCC hub
MioXL hub

Hi, I’d be interested if someone got a torso t1 talking to MM via usb midi. It shouldn’t be that hard, I’m just too stupid I’m sure.

as per OP, I think it would be better if we keep this topic for listing working devices. as a ‘reference topic’
questions / non-working devices will tend to dilute this ,and I think warrant a separate topic to have meaningful discussion etc.
aka, dont be afraid to create new topics

Late reply, but how do you connect TRS midi to the MM? The MM doesn’t have a TRS midi jack…

Need to wait for the expander for that….

Teenage Engineering EP-133 KO-II
Polyend Tracker mk.1
Endorphin.es Shuttle Mate (to input 5-pin MIDI via the supplied usb-A adapter)

Yep sorry, no TRS on MM TRS was working on the OXI coral…
