Was having inconsistencies with Audible Instruments patches built in VCV Rack then saved to MetaModule. When I updated to Firmware 1.3.1 from previous version Patches did not match in playability. Did not have this inconsistency with the previous Firmware. So today I tried to load Beta Version Firmware v1.4.0-beta-3 to see if it would solve the problem. But I ended ups with an endless loading orange arrow when installing firmware. After 10 minutes I shut down MetaModule. Tried restart but I’m now getting a white screen. Reloaded old Firmware v1.3.1 onto SD card but still getting white screen.
not sure if this helps, but I installed 1.4b3 and am running without any problems.
This may be related to the loose display cable issue mentioned in other posts, apparently it can show up randomly but is basically corrected by re-seating the cable. Here’s one of the topics: Screen flickers while scrolling modules
I’d be surprised if it was a loose display cable as I’ve had no problems with the screen or the module until I tried to load Beta Version Firmware v1.4.0-beta-3. Module has been in the same case unmoved. White screen appeared only after shut down and trying to restart. Also I’m not going to take the module apart.
You can try updating via USB. Dan posted instructions somewhere here, or you could email them.
Thanks I followed the directions by Dan Green at:
an partly resolved the white screen. I’m back to version 1.3.1 firmware.
Only thing is that there is still a white screen for 5 seconds before you see orange text saying modules loading.
Don’t remember this happening before. What’s causing this?
That happens to me on startup every time — pretty sure it’s normal behavior.
Not normal behavior for my experience with the module. I did’nt have this solid white screen before this all happened, for sure not for 5 Seconds. It definitely a bug that was not present before. Also the patch that it’s initially loading is only at 59%.
5 seconds of white screen on startup is normal for all versions of the firmware.
Yes, I also experienced a brief white screen, but everything was fine.
ive had 3 different mm’s (one i needed to exchange) and they have all exhibited a white screen for about 4-5 when booting up (doesn’t bother me at all)
4MS, Dan Green,
A white screen looks like a crash. Which did happen to me when trying to load Beta Version Firmware v1.4.0-beta-3. and MM froze on restart. I then had a white screen that did not boot. Crash
5 seconds is a long time. Will this boot up time be replaced with something other then white, a 4MS logo on black, or just stay black until orange text shows loading, or ???
I think most of us are fine with the current boot up configuration (white screen for 5s), which appears to be the default state of the panel when not being sent any display info. I would rather see 4ms focus their development time on continual improvement of the operation of the module and the addition of new features, vs developing/implementing a splash screen.
I count 3, maybe 3.5 seconds. Short enough that by the time I might start to worry it isn’t going to boot up, I’m already seeing the loading screen.
The initial 3-4s initial white screen has been normal, it’s about the same amount of time as my Tete/Tetrapad combo. My guess is that since this is basically a computer, there is no data to send to the screen until the initial powerup has finished.
It’d be possible to do a splash screen — I requested one here, and Dan was amenable. But it doesn’t seem like it’s a high priority for him, and that seems right to me.
A Splash Screen is not a big deal to implement. The White Screen wouldn’t be a problem if this was still a Beta Product being developed, but it’s not. It’s a $650 Commercial Product being Sold Worldwide to Professional Performers. Not a toy. The White Screen just makes it look like an Unfinished Product. And is it going to boot up every time you see White?
That being said I believe 4MS has made an amazing module with the MetaModule. Quite an undertaking. One I was waiting for since they announced the idea. I’ve made hundreds of patches in VCV Rack over the years and look forward to incorporating them into my Live Shows with MM in my eurorack setup. Same for me with the Spherical Wavetable Navigator. Amazing module full of endless performance & sound possibilities.
Better than a black screen, at least it is obvious that it is powered on. And then you blink and you can see it booting up. It really isn’t a problem.
