Knob Set short cut opens Knob Set page

The shortcut (hold the back button, turn the knob) is very handy. It would be even better if it had the option to automatically switch to the Knob Set page when you use it to select a new Knob Set.

agreed! ive often wanted this to jump faster into the knobs pages view when playing live

yeah, Id prefer the MM had a modal approach.

edit patch mode - as is now
performance mode - where the encoder switches knob sets. (as in this OP)

perhaps long press button could switch between the two modes?!

whilst modal operation is not so fashionable these days, it does have a place where you use something in very different contexts.

I believe this is the case hereā€¦
when you are ā€˜performing/usingā€™ a preset , its uncommon to want to tweak the patch.

even in the studio, most of the time I just want to USE a patch not edit it - I want to focus on the music.

Id even advocate that we have an option, such that you can choose, when the module starts upā€¦ does it start in performance mode or edit. ( * )

note: when loading patches, the ā€˜modeā€™ should be retained.
thus allowing you to switch patches during a performance and stay in performance mode.

( * ) this is only really required for ā€˜legacy reasonsā€™ā€¦
generally I think the MM should start in performance mode.
but this would confused users now, since they are used to it being in the edit mode on power on.

This came up in another thread (Change "Edit Parameter" selection behavior), the idea there was that in performance mode clicking on a knob/control from the Module View will immediately take you to the Adjust feature. Hitting back takes you back to the module view, so the whole ā€œMapping Paneā€ is skipped.

The button-bar could be simplified in Performance mode: no File menu, no Add Module button. Keeping the Play/Pause, Info, and KnobSet view buttons seems right. The Patch Settings menu could get a new item: ā€œEdit Modeā€. Long-holding both the encoder and button could also toggle the mode.

Then, yeah it sounds good to have it jump to the KnobSet page when you do the button+encoder combo.

What would happen when you click on a Knob from the KnobSet page? Nothing? Or would it still let you edit the min/max? Or take you to that moduleā€™s knob in the ModuleView?

The ModuleView Action menu could just have ā€œRandomizeā€ and ā€œInitializeā€.

I suppose clicking on a jack would just show the connected cables, but hide the buttons for making new cables.

The System menu should probably stay as-is: itā€™s hard to accidentally get there and you might need to (change sample rate, for instance).

Iā€™m sure thereā€™s some other pages/pop-ups that will come up as we go along. But yeah, I think this is a good idea!

Glad to see more people are on board for the Performance Mode/Edit Mode thing.

I like how clicking on a knob in the KnobSet page currently works: the min/max edit situation makes sense there.

Even more immediate:
Something like push and turn the encoder to adjust a selected virtual knob/button on the selected module. Releasing the encoder, you then tweak it to choose another parameter, and so onā€¦
That would imply that the module settings menu open only on the release of the encoder after a short clickā€¦ I suppose.
What do you think?

More thoughts on Performance Mode: I want it to be really fast/easy to switch from Performance Mode to Edit Mode. Something like a long-press or button combo where I donā€™t have to navigate to a menu in order to switch modes would be ideal, since I find that Iā€™ll be building a patch on MM and I just want to jam out for a minute and play with what Iā€™ve got until I have more ideas for how to change the patch. Then I go back to making connections, adding modules, etc for a minute before jamming out again, so it would be great if the switch between modes was very quick and fluid so as not to interrupt the creative flow.
