Any creative ideas for connecting an ipad to the MM as a controller? Ideally I’d like to create a TouchOSC interface and have it send MIDI to the MM. I can’t come up with anything off the top of my head. Any creative solutions? TIA
Take a look at this thread. A poster said they were able to connect a computer to the MM using two USB to five pin midi adapters and connecting the two adapters via five pin female to female adapters. Your iPad operates as a MIDI host and the MM needs to see it as a MIDI device. Presumably the two devices chained together as described allows that to occur. I’m not aware of a more straightforward method.
On the reported roadmap for the future is an I/O expander that has TRS MIDI in out jacks, but there’s been no information provided on if/when that expander will be released.
I will try this Bluetooth Midi dongle connected to the USB port of the Metamodule:
That looks cool, please let us know how it works for you.
Hi,
I have an Oxi-One, and have had success routing iPad TouchOSC MIDI (and AUM MIDI processors) using the midimittr iOS app running in Peripheral mode.
iPad TouchOSC MIDI → midimittr → bluetooth → Oxi One → MetaModule (via USB C cable)
On the Oxi One, I set it up with:
- Config “System” → “USB Mode” → “Device”
- Config “System” → “Bluetooth On/Off” → “ON”
- Config “MIDI” → “MIDI BLE thru” → “ON”
Is there anything Oxy One can’t do?
i was eyeballing the cme widi dongle. very curious if you had any luck getting it to work with mm?
i’ve tried this " LEKATO Wireless MIDI Bluetooth Adapter" but it’s dongle isn’t recognized by mm. i think because mm doesn’t recognize hubs(yet) → the dongle has a usb thru female end on it.
this one at least does work great with ios/win/osx<-> din controllers. hoping at some point it will work with mm.
Hi, I finally got the WIDI Bud Pro (no affiliation, I promise). I updated its firmware and connected it to the Metamodule. I opened TouchOSC on my iPad, and it immediately appeared as a MIDI connection. I’ve been playing with it for a while, and so far, it works flawlessly. There’s no latency that I can perceive and no interruptions. There’s nothing between my iPad and the Metamodule apart from the WIDI Bud. I’m really enjoying this setup, and the number of possibilities has just increased exponentially.
On one hand, this is fantastic. On the other, I feel like I’m diving into a rabbit hole—which means less time making music and more time experimenting…
I have a bunch of ideas. While having physical buttons on the module or future expansions will always be better for performance, being able to program your own interfaces is priceless.
I’ll open a new thread about midi in the forum
awesome glad it works! i might end up having to get one now ;]
It cant make a sound.
