In no particular order I think the functionality of the following would add a lot to the ecosystem. Thinking here about modules without other hardware / software direct counterparts. Not to knock anyones hard work but I am much more interested in adding some modules that have some less common functions / workflows than additional regular reverbs, analog modeled osc’s and whatnot. Here is my list below, definitely not perfect but a lot of the modules I used in almost every VCV patch.
Stochastic Telegraph Memory Modules - new addition to the list
Null Path suite - um these are all fucking great.
Allright devices effects - I’m cheating here as they are hardware.
Path Set - Omri Cohen - nice granular and tape style loopers
Path Set - Cheese Grater suite - wonky granular fun.
Mindmeld Shapemaster + EQ master - fuck these would be AMAZING not sure exactly how the Shapemaster could be implemented outside of creating the shapes in vcv and exporting as presets, similar to my JW wishlist below.
Ahornberg suite - fun + tape recorder -would be really great to use Meta module as an end of chain recorder - maybe this can already be done using the VCV - I should probably try it out
Noi - cool granular? effects - DONE thanks to @etcetc
Rare Breeds Eugene and Polygene - great Euclidian sequencers
JW Modules - not sure how some of these would work - maybe adding preset knobs and programming sequences within VCV before exporting and then adding preset knobs to scan through them via cv? - anyway love these in vcv for their daw like note grids
I can try my hand at anything that is open source, such as Null Path. At a glance though it seems like the MM would be starved of enough inputs and outputs even with the expander for some of these though.
I can probably get in the following - the others don’t seem to have a MM friendly interface or are closed source.
Null Path
Noi
Path Set (only the free one, Omri’s collab is paid and closed source)
Rare Breeds
One thing I was thinking about for some of the modules is that creating MM specific versions / forks of plugins would be the way to go, in the case of some of the Null Path ones for instance maybe just having 4 ins or outs vs 8… ( please correct me if I’m wrong because I have very little understanding about open source and programming in general )
Regarding the paid modules like Omri’s I was just hoping they would see it and consider porting themselves, i think in the case of some of these premium plugins without hardware counterparts people might be willing to pay for an upgrade or something that includes MM compatibility.
After finally trying out the Stochastic Telegraph Memory Modules I have to add those to my wishlist above. These are so great for adding generative textures and overall tape fun. They seem to be open source and I’m going to also request directly to the dev. As they write / read audio clips not so sure how well that can be handled on the MM in V2. Either way whether or not they end up on the MM anyone interested in tape, looping, micro looping… should give them a try on VCV.
They’re great! But they rely on the extensions feature in VCV Rack, which doesn’t yet exist on the MM. Dan has said he would like to add it at some point.
+1 for a Null Path port. Having the Entangle module on the MM would be an awesome equivalent of the new Make Noise Jumbler module. The MM audio I/O expander opens up the MM to handle more of these port-heavy modules.
I’ve also been playing with a Hetrick Rotator+Scanner patch this evening as another attempt at a Jumbler-like idea.
I hope the introduction of 2.0 will convince a lot more VCV Rack devs to come aboard. However, it seems like interest in MM has waned based on the reduced number of posts here and on other forums. Perhaps, it is time for something of a relaunch to renew interest in the platform.
Too busy enjoying and learning the abundance of goodies that have dropped. I am guessing the silence you hear is the calm before the 4ms marketing machine announces V2. Superbooth is in 9 days time, that would be opportune.
The Blamsoft plug-ins would be great additions, but Blamsoft seems to be mostly inactive. The VCV plug-ins were last updated two years ago, and it has been a long time since any new products have been introduced or updated on any of the platforms they publish for. It’s a bit of a long shot but perhaps folks who are active in porting plug-ins like @etcetc or @hemmer could contact Blamsoft to see if they have any interest in making the code available for their VCV plug-ins to allow them to be ported to the MM.
Emailed! If there are any other non-opensource modules it’d help a lot actually if the community helped to reach out or email them, feel free to cc me, itsoksami@gmail.com
Sorry I missed NullPath in this list. It looks like a pretty easy port, but I am out of town and cannot test on my own MM. If you want you can try it here - if it works I’ll tag Dan
I wish there was such a thing!
But seriously we are busy getting v2 ready, plus we’re about to launch the website ModuleFinder, and preparing for Superbooth.
Ha, ha, Just make sure you shout out your herculean achievements (and that of those who have contributed with 50+ brands) out loud! The MM will take care of the rest.
I have just tried the NullPath Entangle module so far, the module loads on my MM (2.0-rc1) I hit a 100% reproducible crash if changing its Chan control, which is also reproducible on the VCVRack module itself, so guessing not a problem with the port but with the actual module code. I have just reported the issue on github: Entangle crashes if Channel changed from initial value (mono) · Issue #11 · alefnull/NullPath · GitHub
Also the Entangle context menu on the port is not complete, shows “?” on the Trigger sub menu and on the “Fade while switching” ui:fader. Will continue testing…
