I’m on 2.0-dev11.3 with the 4ms Meta Module plugin in VCVrack v2.0.9.
I can upload a patch to the SDcard no problem, but when I make edits to it in VCVrack and try to upload it again it seems the old version is not overwritten on the card. I have to save it to a new filename and then load that. Not sure if that’s intentional or not.
I’m getting the same thing here, also using 11.3.
Did you hit the “stop” button before the upload? I have found this is the only way to overwrite a patch with the same name.
I wasn’t even running the same patch. I loaded a different patch entirely just to see what would happen and it still didn’t overwrite.
What are you writing to? Internal memory, a micro SD, or USB? Could it be something with read-write permissions? Or are you checking the wrong target destination?
I noticed that if you make a change to the patch in MM, there will be a red dot next to the save icon and you cannot overwrite that patch until you deal with it. If you save the change, then you will be able to overwrite.

If I change the 4ms module to a new name I can write it to the Card no problem. So it’s not write-permissions. I just can’t overwrite a patch on the SDcard with the same name
That’s a good hint, but wasn’t the situation. I’ll do some more testing on this tomorrow
That is very strange…did you try deleting the file and then saving again and seeing if you can overwrite the new file? BTW, enjoy your YT videos!
I’m testing this out on v2.0-dev-12.2 and can’t get it to glitch. Try using that version? I didn’t fix anything in particular with this but a lot has changed.
Some factors to consider and try to see if one of these is correlating:
- Has the patch on the MetaModule been opened since you powered on? Opening it will put it in the “Recent” aka “Open Patches” list at the top of the patch selector page.
- Is the patch you’re overwriting currently being viewed on the screen or not?
- Do you see any dropdown notification when you try to overwrite a patch?
- On VCV do you get a “beachball” for longer than one or two seconds? That could indicate a wifi connection failure, then retry, then success. Still should work but it might help to know if this is happening.
Keep in mind, subfolders are not supported by the wifi module from within VCV (you have to use the web browser interface for that).
Like tony10000 said, if you made changes to the patch file, then a red dot will appear next to the File icon at the top of the patch. In that case you cannot overwrite the file because you have unsaved changes. I.e., the patch is intentionally not write-able because you have multiple different copies of it and the MM can’t guess which one you want to keep. You’ll see a dropdown notification informing you of this if this is what’s happening (I assume it’s not since you didn’t mention the dropdown). You need to either do Save or Revert and then you’ll be able to overwrite via Wifi.
