As mentioned in the thread, it’s not like I can never use it, but even if it’s “green”, roughly 9 out of 10 times transfer fails.
Are you transferring a patch or something else?
It could be that the signal strength is weak. The wifi transceiver on the expander is not as powerful as a normal desktop or laptop, so in general you’ll need to have a solid signal from the Wifi Expander to your wifi router. Then of course you’ll need a good signal from your computer to the wifi router. Note that it doesn’t matter if the computer and Wifi Expander are near each other – the thing that matters is the distance to the wifi router (and all obstacles in between).
You could try moving the MetaModule and Wifi Expander to the room where the router is just to see if that helps.
Lots of other things can cause wifi issues – excessive traffic on the network, interference from other wifi networks (try changing the wifi channel in your router settings?)
I’m not really sure it’s about wifi strength because it happens even if i physically put MM next to my router. Also last night I noticed another thing that I didn’t notice before (since I needed to move a patch, obviously once it’s through succesfully, i didn’t try again and again, but this time i did): once it “works”, it works flawlessly for ~10 minutes. after that if it fails again once, it never works until i reboot the device.
I’m having similar issues all of a sudden. Was working for a couple weeks flawlessly, now I’m not able to connect. I’m kinda at a loss. using dev. 12.2.
Hmm… ok so if it’s not signal strength, perhaps it’s this other bug I’ve been trying to hunt down. Do you have a MIDI controller connected? Try disconnecting that and see if the Wifi expander works better.
nope, nothing connected
I updated to Dev 12.5 ver. 2 and initially it wouldn’t connect, until I removed the forward slash at the end of the URL: http://192.168.86.243/ that I entered into Meta Module in VCV Rack.
http://192.168.86.243 works but not http://192.168.86.243/
For now that seems to have fixed it!
i don’t know if something changed, but i updated to 12.5 as well, i had no problem reaching the web interface in the last couple of hours (tested like 5-6 times out of curiosity). will test more trying to send patches from VCV later today.
Ohh! damned!
By me it worked perfectly until I’ve connected the audio expander… or maybe before updating to 1.6.13, not really sure…
Now, I’ve also this message. Failed, no response. I tried to make the update again, reboot… nothing works. The light on the wifi expander is green. The Hub shows me the right connection. I’v not change anything on my router.
Cheers
Watching this. I don’t have the audio expander but I did update to 1.6.13 yesterday and haven’t been able to connect since. Worked flawlessly before
@danngreen ?
Version 1.6.13 seems to have an issue regarding wifi communication…
I’m confirming there’s something happening. It works reliably if I have no SD Card or USB drive inserted, and just save to Internal. Having a disk inserted makes it show an error on VCV. However, it does seem to transfer the file correctly (it updates on the MetaModule screen), it just doesn’t send a response fast enough before VCV times out waiting for it.
I’ll see if I can play with the timing. Something similar was happening on v2.0 so it might need a similar thing.
Well… today, it has worked sending the patch. But after changing some cable connections in vcv it didn’t update the patch in MM even that the message said “file sent” on the hub…
Did you make any changes to the patch on MM and is there a red dot on the disk icon in MM? If so, it will not overwrite the patch.
hey all! i’ve been afk from metamodule for a while, but now i’m back and i installed 2.0 (release), and i’ happy to confirm i’ve had ZERO issues sending patches over wifi ever since.
one small issue i’ve experienced (but only once) is, when i sent an updated version of a patch that was already playing in MM, the unit crashed and i had to power cycle. it may be related to “cable colour key” module i’ve had in the patch (i felt like it crashed right befor e"unknown module" warning). if i can reproduce again, i’ll try the same patch after removing cable colour key.
