Wi-Fi File Transfer Problem with Orange Line Morpheus and Screen Freezing

Firmware v.2.0.0-dev-13.0
Sample Rate: 32K
Block Size: 64

Problem transferring patch with Orange Line Morpheus via direct wi-fi. I checked my connection to the router, and the signal strength is excellent. It locks up VCV Rack (screen turns light gray), takes a long time to transfer, and then locks up MM. If I remove Morpheus, it transfers just fine. I am also having the same problem to a lesser degree with Orange Line Morph.

Transfers faster, but also locks up Meta Module. Looking at the yml file, both modules transmit a large amount of data. File below. It is over 500KB.

I also tried transferring the same file via wi-fi using the web interface and it still locks up MM.

I noticed a similar problem was documented in Oct 2024 (v1.4.2) but wi-fi was not mentioned.

wifi freezing with morpheus.yml (581.5 KB)

I did some more testing and reverted to firmware v2.0.0-dev-12.14.

First of all I unloaded a lot of plugins that I recently installed and turned autoload off for those. I changed the buffer from 64 to 128 (still at 32K).

Morpheus is still problematic. I can get Morph to work OK.

I am noticing that the screen freezes are repeatable. They occur when sequences are playing at bootup and I go into the module display screen and try to turn the sequence off. The screen is frozen. Also, it freezes if I update a file via wifi when the module display screen is not loaded. When, I go into the display screen, the MM is totally locked.

Dev-13 firmware requires dev-13 plugins, which (unless you built them yourself) are not released anywhere. I’m working on getting that all together now.

The wifi issue is something different, but you should know that once you get a patch loaded onto the MetaModule if you are using dev-12 plugins then it’s extremely likely you will get a crash running on dev-13 firmware. That explains the crashing you were having with dev-13.

Crashing on dev-12 is probably due to the issues I fixed making dev-13. I’m running this patch now, with no crashing. But I’m not sure how to use it… At 32k it’s only at 30% load and no output. It looks like the StMix modules are supposed to have something connected, maybe you removed things to debug? Not sure what’s going on, but it’s not crashing at least.

Several OrangeLine modules have large data attached to them in the patch file. E.g. the patch file above is 581kB (most files are 10-30kB). So transferring a file with OrangeLine modules takes longer, and more likely to timeout. I’m working on the Wifi dropout issue (was reported in another thread).

OK, I am back on dev-12 now. Good to know about the plugin requirements. The patch was used to run my Brains and Disting EX modules, so no internal sound sources were used. It is just a basic home base patch.

Morpheus looks like a data monster and is timing out VCV rack and causing it to freeze (handshaking issue?). Morph has less data, and it loads much faster. I switched over to Sickozell RandLoops as a turning machine–it loads instantly. Thanks for the quick response and I am looking forward to dev-13!
