White screen and freeze after installing 1.4.3-beta-1

Hi all,

I installed the latest firmware beta to try the increased module number, but I’m getting a permanent white screen when I reboot the module. The update seemed to go fine until the power cycle.

I found Dan’s suggestion about using USB to update the firmware, but I get the following message after pressing Connect and selecting STM device in DFU mode (which indicates ‘paired’): “SecurityError: Failed to execute ‘open’ on ‘USBDevice’: Access denied”.

I tried the update on another Windows PC but got the same error message.

I then tried this on an Android tablet and the firmware update seemed to proceed exactly as Dan described, but I’m back to the permanent white screen on rebooting.

Help, please!

Well, that’s interesting. I reverted to firmware 1.4.2 via the backdoor USB approach and MM now boots up as it should. I originally thought it might be a problem with the display, but it now looks as if the 1.4.3-beta-1 might be to blame.

Ok, thanks! Something happened in the build for the beta version, I’ll pull it down until I figure it out.

Sorry about that:
Here’s a corrected version (v1.4.3-beta-2)

That’s great. I really thought my MM was screwed, so it’s a relief that it was a beta firmware issue.

For future reference, do you know the cause of the security error that was preventing the USB firmware update?

“Access denied” sounds like a permissions error, or some Windows security setting is preventing access. Maybe something like this:
