Is it possible to add a CPU guestimator to the VCV Rack MetaModule?

Some sort of thumbnail estimate based on what’s loaded in the patch?

Dan, Given we now have this cpu load database, would it be possible to code some kind of numerical display element in the 4ms Metamodule vcv plugin, that displayed the estimated likely CPU load (using the database as an embedded lookup table) of each users patch, prior to uploading? Would be really useful to keep track of things.

Yeah, something like that. I had promised it before the release, but the idea of a CPU load meter is feeling like less and less of a good idea the more data we collect on modules. Instead, something else might solve the need for a meter. The problem with trying to distill CPU load estimates down to a single number (or even a min/max) is that I don’t see how to do it so that it’s both accurate and precise enough. I am able to roughly estimate how much CPU a plugin it will use by checking the CPU usage in VCV rack. On my system, it uses around 7-8X as much CPU unpatched at 32K/64 on the Metamodule. You can see what the coefficient is on your computer through testing. As a rule, anything over .5% on my system will be high CPU and over 1% will be very high CPU. As a result, I try to look for plugins that use .1 to .5%.

I’ve been doing math with just the max numbers fairly successfully. Maybe a whisker chart to show the range or something.

If not, completely understand. This is a nice to have with work arounds.

I just had another thought that would serve the same purpose: add another sort option on the module finder to sort by max CPU load.
