The big day dawns - congratulations @danngreen & the team.
Thanks!
How wide will the slider expander be?
8HP
How many expanders are stackable?
That remains to be tested. You can daisy-chain a lot but there are some environmental issues (like noisy power supplies or modules, or long cables) that limit it.
The Audio and Wifi expanders have dedicated headers, so they attached directly without any daisy-chaining. It’s just the button, knob, slider, and DigIO modules that daisy-chain.
Is there a limit to how many plugins can be stored on the module?
Yes, but we haven’t hit that limit yet. Even if you load all the plugins available you still are using something like 10% of the available RAM.
Is there a limit to how many patches can be stored?
Nope. Just the size of your USB drive or SD Card. The internal storage dedicates 2MB for patches, so it can hold a few hundred (patch files are typically 5kB-15kB or so). But I would recommend just keeping your favorites on the internal storage and use an external drive to store your entire patch library. Even with a small USB drive (8GB) you can store half a million patches or more, so you’ll never have to worry about having too many patches.
What makes the difference between whether a plugin becomes a ‘built in’ and whether it becomes a third party one?
The built-ins are there so you can power the module up on day one have something to play with, without needing to download anything. There’s not any real practical difference other than that.
Does the latency affect audio rate modulation?
Like if you run a patch with a virtual VCO, and you patch that to a physical VCO, and then back into the MetaModule to modulate something else? Yeah, you would just add up the latency for each pass through the MetaModule. It’s not any different than the latency you see on a normal digital module. The Block Size setting goes down to 32, which at 48kHz gives you under 2ms latency (closer to 1.333ms)
So many questions, some of which will likely be answered once the module is in my hands on Wednesday.
Yes! Have fun!
