I use a Nord Modular G2 and it has a nice feature that would be nice on the MM. On the Nord, you can use a knob to do a switch function. When the knob is past halfway, the linked switch is turned on, when below halfway, it is off. This also functions with MIDI CC in that values above 64 are switch on, and below 64 are switch off. Actually the MIDI CC implementation is more useful to be as I typically use up all the knobs, but both would be useful.
If this is already implemented in some manner, please let me know how it is done.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding your question, but MM has done this from day 1. Any switch can be assigned to a knob, even if it has more than 2 positions.
I’m an idiot. For some reason I tried doing it wrong. The MM module does it great. Is there a way to get one of the MICI CC to CV modules to do it too?
you might try the hetrick comparator module.or the fundamental push module, those will give you on/off cv behavior
Tha various switch modules will work great for switching or routing signal, I’m looking for a way to flip switches on the front panels of modules with MIDI CC commands. The MM’s knobs can be assigned. I guess I will have to wait for the proposed switch expander.
i would think one could assign midi cc to a switch on a module, but i don’t have the mm near me to test atm
I have not found a way in VCV at least. Can you do it on the MM itself? Right clicking on the switch would be the action in other virtual modulars.
Hadn’t heard about that one, is that actually coming?
I suppose he is talking about the buttons module that will be usable as switches.
Yes, I’m hoping the buttons can have a toggle function in the software if they are momentary in hardware. The lit pushbuttons that 4ms use can be either way.
Dan from 4ms posted some information about the button expander a few weeks ago. It’s the next module in line for release. One item he mentions is that the buttons will not have any lights.
Button Mapping through Expander - #4 by danngreen?
He mentions in his post that “When you make a button mapping, it’s the same as when you make a MIDI button mapping: you can choose between toggle mode or normal”. I use a Novation Launch Control with my MM and it has buttons that can be mapped to MIDI notes. I use the buttons on the Launch Control to toggle plug-in switches.
Right, when you make mappings with the Button Expander you will be able to set them to Toggle mode or Momentary mode. This is the same thing that can be done with MIDI Note Gate mappings (e.g. mapping a particular note like C#4 to toggle state of a knob/switch/button/slider on a virtual module). See the docs here: Using Knobs - MetaModule Manual
In VCV, you can also right-click on the button expander to change the toggle/momentary mode. But since the MIDI CC mapping in VCV uses the built-in Rack modules to do mappings, there’s no way to set toggle/momentary mode for MIDI CC mappings from within VCV (you have to do it on the MM or of course edit the patch yml file). So when using the “MIDI Map” Rack module to do CC mappings in VCV, you always get Momentary mode by default.
