I would like to see the knob expander too but am getting good results from using my ADDAC221 CV to MIDI CC converter which when nothing is plugged into it, gives me 10 more knobs. There are lots of MIDI controllers out there that would work great, some have tons of knobs -unfortunately the Doepfer Drehbank is no longer available, it has 64 knobs!

As mentioned in another thread one of the best “knob” expander that already exists would be the befaco vcmc: VCMC - Befaco
The VCMC gives you 8 faders and buttons as well as 10 CV inputs and 8 Gate inputs.
So if you are good with faders instead of knobs this is the best third party expander for the metamodule right now with the benefit that you can also send cv/gates via midi to other modules that understand midi in your rack.

The VCMC is an amazing module! It works amazing with the MM! You can have 10 cv’s + 8 faders + 8 buttons (gates) so all in all you have 26 ways to control the MM! Also with the 4 user preset banks you could have multiple banks set up!

We’re still feeling out the Knob Expander. The costs of everything have gone up which means it’ll be more expensive of a module than we originally had hoped for. But we’re going to first see how the MIDI Expander does and go from there.

Hoping the MIDI expander release is forecast for the summer. It would be great to have it soon and its HP size etc. will impact my planning for the rack space I have left. It would also appear to be ideal to have it timed with the polyphonic cabling firmware update.

My Meta Module is in the mail (yay, finally, I´m all excited!) - and I´ll need to hook it up via MIDI, do you have an ETA for the MIDI expander that you could share, so I can decide whether I´ll wait (say 2 months…) or need to grab a Befaco midi thing instead?
Great! The MIDI Expander should be a few months away. In the mean time the USB jack works as a MIDI host and our next big firmware release (after the polyphony release) adds support for the MetaModule as a MIDI device. This will allow you to connect it to a computer or other USB MIDI host.

“A few months” is good news, I hope it´ll sell well enough for you to consider the knobs expander (so much more convenient than buying another controller module and then patching away…).
The “MM as MIDI device” feature is what helps me mitigate the instant need for a MIDI interface - is there an ETA for that firmware update as well?
