Please - could you allow us to map relative midi messages to knobs on 4ms. I have an old, but very useful BCR2000 and would love to not have jumping values when I turn the knob.
+1 on this.
also 14 bit midi would be useful too - till we get midi 2.0
I just tried to map relative midi knob on BCR2000 to knob in VCV rack 2.
While I was able to do this the results are not very promising.
BCR knob cc8 sends cc val 65 when turned counter clockwise
and cc val 1 when turned clockwise.
The result to a mapped knob in VCV rack 2 free is the knob jumps to 65 (1/2 way up) when turned counter clockwise and jumps to 1 (knob full left) when turned clockwise.
Perhaps I am missing something in VCV rack?
The point is to avoid value jumps, however this did not work.
sounds like whatever you are using to do the mapping doesn’t support relative mode.
basically,
bit 7 = -ve/+ve (high = negative),
bits 1-6 are relative abs movement
(usually just bit 1 is used, but other can be used as a kind of ‘velocity’)
these are sent as standard cc, so the receiver has no idea if cc is used in value or relative mode, so everything will assume value mode. (hence why you see 1 or 65 (64+1) )
so you have to set in the application itself, to tell it to interpret as relative.
relative support is not that common.
perhaps there is another vcv module that supports relative midi (assuming you are using the standard vcv MIDI MAP module.
Yes - just the midi map module in VCV rack.
I ran out of time, this morning and had to leave for work.
