So, how are you using MetaModule?

Since you seem to like multi-function modules :slightly_smiling_face:, I might have gone with a Disting-NT instead of the ES-9. The NT can perform a lot of the functionality of the ES-9 and complements the MM very well as there are many algorithms on the NT that don’t have good counterparts on the MM/VCV (and vice versa). In a small rack I like to have some type of ribbon controller like a Bela.io Gliss and maybe an external clock source like a Pam’s Workout.

I’d add an Ornaments and Crime.

im a big fan of async loops collages. i think you can tell a pretty good sonic story during a live set that way. so before mm came out i was initially thinking of getting an octatrack mk ii. i’d seen many perform great sets with just one of those. but with 2 mm’s you can easily mess with up to 16 stereo loops (octa only 8)…even better. having a lot of fun just ping ponging back forth between the 2. will only get better once we see the 4ms STS arrive on mm.

the simple rig is not too far above the cost of an octa (considering was able to find the moog case+usb power module together used for $180) but can ultimately do way way more. wont be getting bored of this any time soon especially considering how many modules we’re seeing ported over these days.

I would love to be able to write custom code. Would love to hear what this combo sounds like with your custom modules. I hope more sampling options will become available soon for MM, including 4ms’ own!

That looks awesome! I would love to hear what you do with it!

It’s quite an investment to build it all yourself though. 20 years of professional and personal time has gone into programming for me! The hard part is balancing the time on building vs the time on using it! Sometimes you want to do the creative part but you are forced to do the technical.
Once I’ve settled the interfaces for everything I’ll also release all the modules I’ve been making, I just want to make sure they are battle hardened before I do (and that I don’t need to make any more big changes to them that might mess up other people’s patches).

I’ve got a couple of gigs coming up in the next month which I’ll try to record so you can check it out. If you use Instagram I’m t_whiston on there and will post various bits in the coming months!

Great skill to have! I subscribed to your IG and will be checking it out!

Yes, I looked at the NT as well as the ES-9. Thanks for the other suggestions, I will check out.

In the end, I decided to treat the MM as a complex module source(s), i.e. no audio. I can then operate the whole thing via mpc one and touch controller.

When the expander has arrived and my patch is finished, I can write something about the concept / routing of the MM in ā€œmy moog studioā€.

I use it in so many different ways it is my most used nodule it’s in every one of my patches. I often use it for clock division and sequencing. I love using it to generate chords in multiple different ways. It is also one of my favorite drum boxes the list goes on and will forever expand. This module allows me to have access to an array of modules that would take my entire life to afford I love it.

It is really amazing!

You will need a longer piece of 8 pin ribbon cable to get your expander to where you want it btw.

how do you work with audio loops there? isnt it still lacking audio playback/ audio file loading?

you need to install the latest dev 2 firmware, then install the bidoo (or sickocell) plugins. it’s still a little buggy around the edges but ive had up to 13 40second loops playing in total (using bidoo canard module) on mm no problem.

you can read more here:

I was hoping that the cable would at least reach that far. But I have someone who can customize it for me.

4ms can also provide custom length cables if requested by email.

Thanks for the tip, but I won’t be ordering a cent item from America. Furthermore, I would find it quite embarrassing if the expander with the supplied label could not be connected in the position I intended. My expectation is that the module can be placed around the entire MM.

The supplied cable allows for the expander to be placed to the left or right of the MetaModule, and is long enough to allow for it to be on the row above or below the MetaModule as well.

We’ll see as soon as the item arrives. I was finally able to place my order and expect to receive the goods in the next few days.
