Sequencer favorite

What are your favorite sequencers that are supported by MetaModule?

MI Marbles and Rebel Tech Stoicheia (?)

(MI Grid/Topograph would fit too, but I just don’t use  )

for me, it has to be something with a very simple/small ui, as stepping thru knobs/buttons with a single encoder is not viable, so that rules out ‘step sequencers’ - so basically, I use generative type sequencing.

ofc, you can also create your own generative sequencer via a combo of modules, this can be fun… and now with the wifi expander, its easer to do this on the desktop, and then just ‘beam it’ across to the hardware

if I want a ‘step sequencer’, I use my Hermod+ or USTA.

all that said, I do have an idea for ‘something else’ for the MM, but Im waiting on the drawing api for the MM

It depends on what type of sequencer you are interested in. One item that is missing from the currently available plug-ins is a clock source with stop/start. I have a Pam’s in my rig that I’ve used as a master clock for the MM, but it would be nice to have a more full featured clock source that could be incorporated into a patch inside the MM, or a sequencer plug-in with a built-in clock with start/stop.
Currently there are very few sequencers where you can specify note values. There are quite a few with CV outputs that can be used with a quantizer module. I think we will see some traditional step sequencers after the V2.0 firmware is out of beta.
I agree with TheTechnobear that some of the most interesting sequencers at this time are some of the generative sequencers including the RebelTech plug-ins.

A bit of shameless self-promotion here but I think these two are particularly well suited to the MM:

@teknobryan If you want a generative sequencer, check out Orca’s Heart. It’s the most melodic instrument I’ve found in all of Euro.

@CountModula Could you say a bit more about what makes those two modules well-suited to the Meta? (Many thanks for your contributions to the VCV and Meta ecosystems, btw.)

Hetrick phasor collection is worth to dive in. But it needs a quite long learning curve. The possibilities are quite endless.
Personnally, for melodies, I use the combo count modula 16 steps and orrange line Mother, which is sequenced with and a bogaudio addr trio. This combination can turn a 16 steps sequence into a whole song. Don’t recommend to “write” the song within the METAMODULE, though.:grimacing:

@gabrielroth They’re both simple to use yet still provide a good amount of sequencing functionality given the number of controls.

+1 for Orca’s heart, it’s wonderful.

The synth part here used it, as well as a couple of oscillator modules I’ve been beta testing from a certain excellent VCV developer

How’s Orca’s Heart supported, it’s under which name? A Scanner Darkly is not listed on 4ms plugin page.

It’s built in MM.
Plugin named eightfold.

Ok, so i can add Orca’s Heart in VCV and it’ll load eightfold in MM?
Are there more modules like this? pretty confusing tbh, though at least it seems to be tagged properly so maybe it usually works like that (searching “eightfold” in VCV will show Orca’s Heart).

The module is named “Orca’s Heart” in both places but the plugin is “scanner darkly” in VCV and “eightfold” in Meta.

Ok.
It’s really great, this is my new favorite, very musical

Yeah its a bit confusing. Regarding vcv library,
Eightfold is the plugin name which prevault for Metamodule, scanner Darkly is the author. And it’s a 1 module plugin.

sorry for the confusion - the reason it’s like this is due to how different plugin properties are interpreted in both VCVRack and MetaModule, and the fact that VCVRack wants you to subscribe to a plugin, not individual modules - which might not always be desirable. so when i did v2, i wanted to use a separate plugin - this way i didn’t need to maintain backwards compatibility with the previous version, and folks who prefer the 1st version or want to go back to an old patch can still do that.

hope this helps:

Module Plugin Brand Ported to MM
Orca’s Heart Collection One scanner darkly no
Orca’s Heart v2 eightfold scanner darkly yes

eightfold plugin also has other modules that are meant to compliment Orca’s Heart, they haven’t been ported to MM yet as they utilize poly cables.
