Rearranging the order of the modules

Hi there!

I really appreciate visual logic in my patches and as far as I know Metamodule doesn’t allow you to visually rearrange the order of the modules.
Is this something that can be added?
For example when selecting a module and pressing the encoder to go inside its menu there could be a ‘move’ parameter.
Selecting that will jump back to patch view with a (green) single line representing the new spot of the selected module. The encoder then allows you to move the module around across the whole patch and then press the encoder to confirm and drop it in that selected spot.

*Or way faster, press and hold the encoder with the module selected, after holding down the encoder for 2 or 3 seconds the outline changes color and you can , while keeping the encoder pressed, rotate the encoder to move the module left and right.

Anyone else would like to see this implemented?

Have a great weekend!

Absolutely brillant idea! I like when things are in the good place

+1 to this idea! as i’ve gotten more comfortable building directly on the mm, would really love to be able to move things around and better organize the patches. like getting all the most important modules that i need to see/interact with immediately when first running a patch, to sort to the top.

+1 on this, its come up a few times now.

another related FR ( I made?), is to allow the rack layout to be more manually controlled.
e.g.. to have a wider rack or tall rack - that you can pan around.

the reason is related is, like you, in vcv I tend to layout patches with some logic.
grouping them, either according to function or some other criteria e.g. for better cable management.
this helps a lot when you develop more complex patches..

as for implementation, Id leave that up to Dann - I’d be happy with a simple ‘layout mode’

btw: taking of layout, vcv has a few ‘trunking modules’, where you can route cv/audio from one part of a patch to another. not viable to port to MM. but MM could have its own version. (could still be in vcv, but a different implementation on the MM)

all that said… in fairness, it seems most of us (see other topics on usage) don’t end up with hugely complex patches on the MM, so this is all less ‘important’ than it is on vcv desktop - where patches can get unwieldily

Yes, +1 and an extra one for good luck,
Currently no access to vcv here so simple reorganise , I like the funny magnet crane that you get in the zoom Multi-Stomps to re-order but probably have to be simpler interface.

Yes it would be very useful as I also patch in meta

just spitballing.. but i could envision, at the very simplest implementation, you select “rearrange” from within a module’s view settings and you are taken back to the main patch view, but there is then an obvious red bar/line just to the left of the module you selected to move. you can move scroll the red line left or right through the patch (it will jump to the left/right of the modules) with the selection knob, to the new spot you want to move your module to. then a single press press of the scroll knob button, the module you are moving drops just to the right of the red line. and also maybe pressing the back button (top right little white one) would cancel you out of move mode

Nice! I would suggest that the selected module is outlined in red (so you don’t have to remember “It’s the one to the right of the red line”), and then a second red indicator moves through the patch.

ah yes that makes sense and would also be quite useful in the case that there’s a bunch of the exact same modules in a row

+++++10000 for that.

I love it!
So much new ideas for this module, even more than 1 year after it’s launch. Poor Dan! I don’t know if he could even imagine what kind of rabbits hole he was diving in before beginning this project!
