Plugin request: Jasmine & Olive Trees Traffic

There’s a freeware version in the VCV library, but it’s closed-source: VCV Library - Jasmine & Olive Trees Traffic

A lot of people are asking for drum modules, and Traffic + Plaits makes a great drum machine. No idea if the creator would be up for making a port (or letting someone else do it).

if its closed source, perhaps you should reach out to the original developers…
perhaps ‘sound them out’, see if they are interested in doing a port themselves.
or to work in collaboration with another dev ( * ) - then let us know.

this would, generally, be a good step for all plugin requests relying on closed source. i.e. find out the lie of the land, so devs know if it’s worth investigating.
as there is nothing we can do without access to the source code

except…

another option would be to create a new module with same/similar functionality. though, for this route, I need to know if there is something unique about this module, thats not already achievable with other module(s)
(no point re-inventing the wheel)
however, this is much more work than just porting an existing module.

( * ) I will say though, personally, as a dev, Id not really want to expend energy on a closed source project, that I then can’t share freely (the code).
though, I guess if it was a simple / low effort collaborative port, perhaps ok.

It is not surprising that companies like Befaco, Mutable, and 4ms, who have a history of generously sharing their code and designs, have their modules available here.

I think it would be wrong to have any expectation that a manufacturer of physical modules who has ported their modules to software would be keen to port them back to another company’s hardware, which may result in lost revenue to them for their R&D.

Some may be willing but don’t be surprised if they are not.

Yeah, I wouldn’t expect anyone to give away their work for free. But since there’s already a VCV port I thought it was worth asking. I emailed the developer.

Also, Traffic is a great module but it wouldn’t be hard to duplicate its functionality with modules that are already available on the Meta.

One thing I could imagine is that it might be easier to make money charging for Meta Module plugins than it is for VCV plugins — we’ve all spent hundreds of dollars on the module already, whereas presumably most Rack users are using the free version and the many excellent free plugins. So maybe some commercial developers will want to give that a try.

Oh I forgot to post this but I emailed the developer, Domingo Martin Mancera, and he replied:

I believe I should talk with the maker of the metamodule to make it available. I don’t see a public way to release plugins. I’ll investigate further, thanks for suggesting

So maybe it’ll happen!

wow nice!!!, nice!!! yes!!!

Any further word from Domingo on this?

I have not heard anything but I haven’t asked either … might be worth someone from 4ms reaching out.

Ok, I sent an initial email.
