Onscreen knobs matching physical knob layout

Got mine from Rubadub the other day and I’m excited by the features that already exist. Is there any chance that the layout of the knobs on the screen can be rearranged to match the layout of the physical knobs.

I know that after a time using it like it is it will become muscle memory but it is a bit of a barrier for me at least in the current configuration.

Cheers

I don’t have my module yet (it’s been sitting at the same post office a few miles away for 3 days ) but that was one of the first things I thought when I saw the app in VCV.

Co-sign this. The colors are helpful but spatial mapping would be easier — even an approximate layout to accommodate the shape of the screen.

The colours on the physical knobs would be helpful if they were more visible. I have a light over my modular case so I can see everything but the problem is the screen reflects the light, so I’ve had to turn it off and can’t see the colours. I’ll probably end up swapping the knobs themselves out with coloured variants.

Absolutely an annoyance for me too. Spacial mapping ftw. Memory is weird.

We can re-arrange the knobs easily. When we laid out that page, we first tried putting the six big knobs A-F along the bottom of the screen, but there wasn’t enough room for the knob and module name. So we split that row of six into two rows of 3, and it fit much better with more room for the text.

Maybe we can play with it more, using a smaller font or smaller knob arc… or if someone can describe or sketch a layout that makes more sense? It’s quick and easy to re-arrange the knobs, just not sure what would fit better.

I would take the hit of smaller knobs/text for a more recogniseable knob layout. But i think there should then be an option to choose either.

Oh and thanks for taking the time to answer in all these forums

Yes, ok a preference setting for preferred layout might make sense here.

Thank you for taking the time to help improve this!

As a (very) colourblind user, the A-F, u-z labelling is essential. The colours mean nothing on their own, wherever they are used. Spatial mapping would definitely help, ideally while retaining the legibility of the lettering. One consideration would be the contrast between the black letter and “red” background for “u” and “A”. With a smaller icon, a white letter would be clearer.

Same here! Labeling is an absolute must-have, in Bold White on Black

What about two semi circles that fan out from each corner with text that appears when you start turning a knob in the middle of each semi circle

I strongly agree with the OPs sentiments. Having played with the 4msMM for a couple of weeks on&off, one thing that keeps tripping me up when I’m in the midst of a performative flow is using the layout of the knob screen to grab the dial that I want to move and because the screen layout is different from the physical I keep grabbing the wrong dial. I think it would be much better if the screen layout more closely matched the physical layout. The screen type would need to reduce approx 80-84% depending on choice as the attached reworked layout illustrates. If you want a more concise layout let me know and I’ll knock something up in illustrator. I’m not suggesting anything fancy - just moving the screen elements to match the physical device.

+1! and if there’s open space in the center, that could be a text display of the value of whatever knob you are moving? e,g, it would show semitones octaves if the mm knob is linked to a virtual knob that uses those types of values.

good idea - or perhaps my preference, a real time text display showing the voltages at all 16 in/out jacks - really helps when incorporating the 4msMM with other modules.

+1 for me to (more closely matched the physical layout)
