Metamodule performance at 'freq boutique'(hosted by wmd) in denver, co

got a chance to take a few newer patches out for a spin on my ‘backpack modular’ at our monthly modular event freq boutique, where we also chat afterwards about the tools/modules used and what techniques the artists employed during the performance.

the event’s a ton of fun and the crowd is super open minded/friendly! the host alex is awesome. if you’re ever swinging through denver around the time of this (2nd tues of every month), i recommend signing up:

p.s. if anyone is curious, the module to use to send gate if a physical jack is plugged in on the mm, is the hetrick ‘normals’ module. with a cable running from an atvert module to the left most input on normals, then a cable running from the mm’s physical in, to the middle jack on normals.

Very cool! Nice Q+A at the end, too

Awesome! Sad I missed this one. I typically use my MM for 3 voices in my gigging setup. I mainly play downtempo/ambient at the local kava bars here in Colorado Springs. I need to explore more full-featured patches.

I didn’t realize you were using two MetaModules. That’s a great idea to be able to switch patches without stopping the sound.

I love the idea of plugging and unplugging as a way to trigger a sample — makes it much more of a live performance (and fun to watch!) Sounds great!

thanks! yeah it’s definitely the only way i could think of to do longer seamless live sets . although sometimes i’ve used 1 mm the whole time as a dual looper (with 2x 4ms dld), and the other as the sound sources, that was a lot of fun to play with in a drone/ambient type of show.

now that the tsp sample player is coming into it’s own, im confident 1 single mm could easily be used to do really long live performances, of course that would be a mainly sample based performance but still, pretty neat! and tsps seems pretty lightweight cpu wise so you could still have some other effects/sends in the patch to play with. mainly what im using in this performance are the bidoo canard samplers because you can sample/hold the start input to create random offsets with each trigger. i don’t believe any other sampler on the mm offers that ability yet. sicko sampler you can assign a knob to the start offset, but no cv input for that(sadly!).

btw if you ever end up playing one of these events here in denver, let me know i’ll try and make it out!

thank you! i think the normals module was mainly meant for replacing an internal signal flow w external one (like internal clock versus clock from another module in your rack) but it just so happens to be able to create triggers as well with the 4ms gate module:

just needs a physical patch cable to go from out 3 on the mm to input 1 to cause the trigger

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I’ve played Freq Boutique a couple of times, but I try to make it up there every month. It’s hard sometimes with everything going on and being an hour or so away.
