Hopefully I have placed this post correctly, if not let me know and I will move it.
Greetings all-
I am attempting to sequence over USB MIDI with Fugue Machine for ipad. It is sequencing on all 4 channels but there are 2 odd behaviors-
- If there is enough space between notes, the pitch of the audio goes “high”, very high to a squealing painful note. As soon as another note is triggered, it plays that note correctly but then does the same thing, over and over again.
- If there are no spaces between notes (one starts where one ends with no overlapping) then neither the gate nor retrigger seems to work and either the original first note continues or it just dies out with the envelope decay.
Patch is 4 Braids using 2 4ms ENV/VCA’s into 4ms Listen to audio outs on panel. I’m using 4 separate Rack Core Midi-cv modules to receive pitch/gate/retrigger (seems to work better with retrigger than gate) from the ipad. I’ve tried patching with other modules (Fundamental VCO/ADSR/VCA Mixer with the same exact problems. I’ve also tried using a different sequencer on the iPad (Polyphase) also with the same exact result.
I’m not new to either sequencer or any of the modules in hardware form, but I am very new to MetaModule so I’m sure I’m doing something wrong on that end, probably something obvious to a veteran. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
How are you connecting your iPad to the MetaModule? I’ve not experienced any of the issues you have outlined. But I’m connecting my iPad to the MetaModule via a CME WIDI Bud Pro Wireless MIDI receiver plugged into the MM’s USB port. I use the same to connect my MacBook Pro to the MM for sequencing. There are a lot of potential variables, but it is possible the MM is not playing well with the MIDI adapter you are using to connect your iPad to the MM.
I’m using 2 usb-din cables and a connector. Another user on this forum is using this method successfully, it’s where I got the idea. I have a midi to cv module, I’ll test the method with that today to make sure it isn’t the cable setup.
I tested this on my midi-cv module (Polyend Poly2) and it had both of the same issues. Then I tried it with the outgoing signal disconnected and the high-pitched noise went away. I really wanted to use the out so I could control the ipad’s tempo from the modular but that seems to create an unwanted loop. So a little bit of progress but the gate issue remains the same.
Maybe I will send this cable setup back and get the CME rig.
@Rrobosyn are you able to send midi both ways? Can you control your iPad’s tempo/clock from your modular?
Just to follow up here-
I did send the double cable rig back and purchased to CME WIDI Bud. It does the job flawlessly. There is a free app to download that turns the bluetooth signal into a MIDI source that has been visible in both sequencer apps I have tried (Fugue Machine, Polyphase) and they send multichannel midi to Meta with no issues. @Rrobosyn thank you for the tip!
