So my opinions might not be appeal to everyone, but after much though I still don’t have a use case for the MM. I also have been a sceptic of vcv rack - I created a midi based system in FL studio which is quite superior, as an example. Most people might not realize you can insert scripts into parameter links - for example, using a cheap novation micro launch can browse 1000’s of presets in, say, Falcon UVI. This done in vcv would require banks of constant cv’s, 1000’s actually. A script in a text editor is surely easier ! So what do I consider vcv’s strengths? It’s polyphonic capacity - to have a lot of granularity when it comes to tweaking with polyphony. And polyphony is not likely coming to MM because I suspect the hardware isn’t powerful enough.
So I’m of the conclusion the MM gets used for a bank of lfo’s, or a drum machine. But for the price and real estate 2 perkons voices might more be desirable.
With all due respect to the community and developers, the passion is certainly here. Before I sell the module and try a laptop and a expert sleepers, there would be some ‘fixes’ for my scenario -
The method of changing the pages of the knobs. If a knob could be used to select the banks, then I wouldn’t need to pine about midi cc’s from my elektron box controlling things. Perhaps a button expander with the option to select knob banks.
And being that knob banks are cumbersome to perform with, perhaps letting midi cc’s being mapped in vcv - sequencing might become enjoyable then, but mapping, say, 64 cc’s - without pain ! - is needed.
To reiterate - I am impressed with the MM and all the people involved. But honestly, vcv rack is not all that popular on YT for a reason - a lot of time achieving an end result brings the realization things could have been done easier. For the immediate future, I will use the MM as a simple midi clock sync, random compute modules, and lfo’s. It’s worth the price for that but the real estate is a concern. If it was more of a performance beast - the reason modular is appealing - it would earn it’s place in my rack. So a less menu dive-y method of knob bank selection would make me happy.
