Hidden wifi expander

Hi, I’m considering getting the WiFi expander, but I’d prefer not to use up space in the rack. Do you see any issues with installing it behind the module somehow? I’m even thinking about removing the panel. While four spaces isn’t a huge deal, I don’t see the need to have it at the front since there’s nothing to interact with there.

Thanks for your feedback!

Welcome to the forum! A potential issue with placing the WiFi expander inside the case is that the case may interfere with the module being able to communicate with your WiFi network. That will depend on the material of the enclosure and the proximity and strength of the WiFi signal. An example was given that the expander might function poorly inside a metal case like a 4ms Pod. But you can always try putting it inside your case to see how it functions.

Or… you can cut a hole in the side of your enclosure like I did!

Thanks for the tips! I’ll install it into a Mantis case which is made of a dielectric material. Hopefully, it won’t affect the signal that much. I will try and post here if I find something interesting.

Thanks!

I’ve got mine laying down in a repurposed Mother 32 box which is about 2 metres from my PC and it works perfectly.
