Question 1 - Are the Built in Plugins part of the firmware? And therefore, if new ones become available there’ll arrive via a firmware release?
Question 2 - Plugins, ie 3rd party ones can be stored on the Meta Module?

Yes, Built-ins are part of the firmware and are always loaded. To add new modules we would probably release it as part of a new firmware version, but we also could release new modules as a plugin. For example, Valley includes 3 modules as built-ins but you also can load a Valley plugin that provides 3 more modules.

They have to be stored on an SD card or USB drive. Once you’ve loaded the plugin, you can remove the drive (because the plugin modules are running from memory). But when you power down, you’ll need to insert the drive again to load them.
Excellent! Many thanks for getting back
