I’m not a developer. I’ve created one VCV Rack plugin, and I was able to compile this plugin for MM using the provided instructions! The instructions imply that assets\components and assets\panels are required, but I found in my simple plugin that the faceplate PNG file must be moved to \assets before building, otherwise MM complains “could not load faceplate image” when loading the module. Maybe this will help someone in the future.
