Failed: No response from MM when sending to WIFI Expander

I updated to v 2.1.1 and am unable to send files to the MM. I can log in through my Chrome browser and it says connected. I’m using the same address on the MM and in VCV Rack but still geting no response. Green light is lit on the expander. I tried everything I know to do. starting and restarting and checking address etc.

Any ideas appreciated.

The thing that is so baffling is that Meta Module in VCV Rack shows the connection with the correct address when I hover over the wifi button.

Still stumped and unable to transfer patches over wifi today.

What error message are you getting? Does it spin for a while and then give the error, or just fail immediately?
Which drive are you sending to, and are you sure the MM is not having an issue with that drive?

Try sending a patch with just one module from the 4ms plugin. So, make a new patch, delete everything, add just the MetaModule Hub and let’s say the 4ms MultiLFO. Nothing else.
Then set the wifi address (make sure it starts with http://) and choose the drive to send to. Double-check if you pick SD Card that the SD Card is actually able to be accessed from within the MetaModule. Likewise if you pick USB then make sure you can navigate to the USB drive on the MM and see files, open patches etc.

Then try sending this super simple patch by clicking the Wi-Fi button.

The reason I suggest a simple patch is because it rules out large patch files which can cause issues over wifi. You can always see how large your patch file is by clicking the red Save button and then looking at how big the .yml file is. Most patch files are under 100kB, if you see larger then it could be a Wi-Fi connectivity issue. If you see > 1MB then it’s definitely the issue as the MM does not allow large files to be transferred.

It fails immediately. I’m sending to the card. I checked the card and it seems fine. Has always worked. I removed it and mounted it on my computer and also transfered files to it uploading with USB and it works fine.

I did that already with just the MM. Same issue and just tried it with just multiLFO and MM and still the same.

Yes, I’m able to access the card and internal files and load them.

Super simple patches have same results.

I’ve tried every permutation I can think of, even closing the browser to see if that was interferring with the connection. I’ve been using it for months without a real issue until now. I was out of town for a couple weeks and when I got home, I updated to 2.1.1 before I tried any of this. All I know is that it was working as expected before this update. I had also unplugged everything when I left so it couldn’t have had any voltage surges or anything like that.

What’s the error message?

“Failed: No response”

When I hover my mouse over the blue button, it shows the correct wifi connection and says “Copy patch to Card”

Are you on a Mac? I had a similar issue that turned out to be to do with Local Network permission settings.

Thanks for this. Yes, I’m on Mac but in Privacy & Security->Local Network there is “Rack” and it was on already, but I switched in off then on again and now it works!! WTH!?

Anyways, so relieved. Thanks for mentioning this fix!

OK, glad that worked! I think the answer to the question “WTH” is “The security features in macOS are buggy and annoying.”

Same issue for me. It worked fine fore a little while with my brand new Mac and, all of a sudden, not any more. The first attempt after a 5 second delay and then immediately after clicking. I checked the security trick described above, but it didn’t for me. The button on the WiFi module stays green, The IP address is correct, etc… I can’t figure out what happened. There were no update in between.

Edit: just updated to os26 and now it works… Maybe related to this security affair after all..
