As the title suggests — would it be possible to use something like a midi fighter twister to map additional knobs on the virtual modules to physical knobs via a midi controller?
Yes it is. On this forum you will also find a thread on Melbourne Roto control (motorised knobs) and knobs that automatically map to the positions of the knobs on the virtual module.
Yes, it is not only possible, but very useful, just be aware of the various midi channels and CC# the various pads/keys/knobs/sliders are transmitting on. The MIDI interface module (under fundamental i think) monitors any midi activity received too if you arent sure (my advice above is more to avoide reduntant/conflicting values) I have yet to try using a hub to connect multiple controllers, but i beleive it is possibly (been focusing on interfacing MM with my other synths)
Yes absolutely! I recommend the TotalMix as it has all 3 control types you would likely want - knobs, buttons, and faders. it’s also very cheap and is USB powered without requiring external power. See this post: Horror Movie Soundtrack / MIDI CC With MM - #2 by constantG
Also see this patch for an example of using MIDI notes as gates to control UI elements of modules that don’t normally have gate or trigger inputs for parameters. You can use keys from a MIDI keyboard, or in this case the buttons on TotalMix (which are outputting MIDI notes as gates) Guitar Chords patch with CV Funk - #7 by Brown242
Do you happen to have a link to the TotalMix as a Google search brings up a lot of different devices and I’m not sure which one you’re referring to. Thanks.
I’m sorry my mistake, my RME software is called totalmix
The product is called novation launch control. There’s newer ones, but you can also find older ones and used models for significantly cheaper.
Any generic USB MIDI device is compatible with MetaModule, so don’t feel tied to this one. The one i used in the video is an older model from a few years ago and works fine.
Here’s the newest one:
Novation Launch Control
Oh nice! I’ve been using the Launch Control XL MK2. It’s perfect and inexpensive for VCV Rack.
I use the ADDAC221 which is a CV to MIDI CC converter with the MM. Without plugging a CV into the front panel, the level attenuation controls act as DC pots and work manually. Adds 10 more knobs (or CVs).
Too bad that Doepfer no longer makes the DREHBANK MIDI controller, which would give you 64 knobs to play with. Thet do sell the electronics of a couple of their MIDI controllers so you can easily DIY up your own expansion panels, with your own unique controllers.
Hi,
I´m very happy with this one:

and 255,- bucks is a fair deal.
PS: Perhaps I´ll add some ws2812b rgb leds and a simple Arduino Midi to Neopixel converter.
Cya,
