Do I need a USB-C thumb drive?

I’m waiting for my Meta Module (can’t wait) and realized it might be useful to get a USB-C thumb drive. Would it be useful or necessary. If so can I store presets on it rather than the micro disk card?

If so, What would be a good size to get?

Thank you!

Greg

will you be doing all of your patch creating directly on the mm? if so then you probably dont need a usb c thumbdrive since the mm comes with a 16gb micro sd. which is a ton of space (at least until the sts sampler module shows up on the mm).

if you plan to create patches in vcv on a laptop, get the wifi expander module (if you have room for it) or otherwise a usb thumb drive and kvm setup. those are the quickest most painless ways ive found to roll:

Super helpful. Thank you so much!

P.S. I’ll be doing almost all my patching in VCV Rack.

why do you want to NOT store on the sdcard?

you can remove sdcard without powering down MM, so if you get yourself a card reader for your PC, its as easy to use that.

also, if you plan to do almost all patching in vcv, get the wifi expander, that is a much more ‘efficient’ workflow, that using either usb stick or sdcard reader.

overall, Id leave the usb socket free for things like midi controllers.

Thanks for the good advice! I don’t mind storing on the sdcard, it’s just that in my studio my only reader is dedicated to my iPad setup so just have to buy one or switch things around. And since I don’t have my unit yet, just not sure how it’s all going to pan out. Now I think I get how it all works so I like the suggestion to leave the USB-C open for controllers! And I plan on using CV from my Erae II (which I don’t have yet either). I plan on getting the Wifi expander now. Seems like the best way to go to make the workflow flow!
