Canard sampler problem

This is a rant - because again I find the new realm of modular abrasive. This time running 4 instances of canard sampler, with under 20sec samples. At the half way point of the sample, the samples start playing at half speed.

What I was attempting was four samplers having ability to route to A or B stereo outputs. I ended up using a 1-4 4ms switch as using mixers or mute8 crashed, likely from internal threads opening for audio. Reconfigured on this fresh new day and 1-4 does the trick. But now the strange half speed problem.

So here’s the rant - I really want to like this module. But crashing on 4 internal audio chains times 2 is not expecting that much. Elektron boxes do it with ease. Roland samplers as well. Honestly, had I known all my time was spent fighting a computer, I wouldn’t have put one in my rack. I do like the idea that my ideas can be configured, but I’m at the point of thinking anything beyond logic gates and clocks are beyond what this thing does. Probably undeserved criticism here, I understand the passion put in to this. But I was sold on a computer in my rack based on a trusted source. And it apparently chokes on 8 internal audio channels. A mini pc could run dozens of audio threads. Perhaps consider an upgraded processor ? I mean, modular swiss knife is great, but the real estate and time spent debugging is a bummer.

The problem happens without the split - just 4 samplers. At the half way point, samples play at half speed.

my current live sets, the ymls each contain 6x instances canards, with samples up to 1m 30s each (48khz, 16bit wav) and i do not at all experience any half speed issues. really no issues at all for what im doing w the patches. however i am still running 2.0.1 firmware with bidoo plugin version 2.0.1 - that’s what’s used in this demo: Dueling MM's! (with some ambient loops) - #6 by offthesky

@etcetc might know if anything changed in the codes recently that might caused samples to play back half speed at their halfway point?

After ranting I seem to have a solution - sickozel sampler seems to work fine and cpu isn’t an issue. The reason I suspected the operating system is because when changing system prefs, sample and block, the displays on the canards changed. Anyway, no time to troubleshoot - wifey has become vigilant in questioning my modular safari so need to have something to show.

So I’m happy now - 4 sickozell samplers split two ways at about 70% cpu.

My frustrations are mitigated by the excellent control mapping - the knobs become exponentially more useful with the superb mapping implementation.

that’s great! the sicko ones are also really quite nice for doing granular sampler type stuff

I’m getting results now. Sicko is working great. So an interesting little thing - get 4 samples off splice, each one routed 1 of 2 places or muted. Send one stereo out to befaco oneiroi. Basic stuff any mixer could do. However, oneiroi sync resets the looper, and internal sync allows larger duration than external. Calculated to 175.7 bpm divided by 16. So adjust sample bpm to half 175.7bpm. Now to sync sample with oneiroi. Trigger using flip flop to align, and manually use delays to synchronize. A lot of effort, but want to start from a known configuration and move from there. This kind of thing would be almost impossible using standard modules, so I’m seeing the use case for the meta - as a miricle worker when needed. Also to mention, the knobs selecting sample output are A, B or mute. Thanks to the robust knob programming managed to use the extra travel for level control ! Feature request : meta vcv module might benefit from ability to manually enter binding data.

Sorry you had so much frustration @rossimatic - I do a lot of the ports and unfortunately, the Bidoo library carries it’s fair share of bugs which you would also encounter in the VCV Rack version. I am continuing to do my best to repair these for the MetaModule
