I think showing the modules is a poor use of the screen while performing with it. The details are very tiny and you also have to scroll, this is much too slow, something more instant would be better.
Perhaps it could show, in text, what i’m doing when i turn a knob. Sometimes i have up to 5 things assigned for 1 knob (a really cool function in itself, if you set it up properly).
So my suggestion would be that when you turn a knob, large text pops up that shows e.g:
Macro Osc 1: Coarse
Macro Osc 2: Coarse
Resonator: Freq
Perhaps in combination with having the screen showing all the modules knobs and with small text of what the knobs functions are currently.
It could of course be just an alternative way to how the screen is presented, like in preferences you select “Performance Screen”.
You have to dig pretty deep to tune an osc to 50%. (Tuning an osc to 50% is kinda dubious, I’d like to see something more useful as a value, like C +4 cents or something, but I can see why it’s like that. I guess 1v/oct sources throw it off, anyways.)
Having some kind of a popup would make fine adjustments a lot easier.
Yeah, this goes along with the idea that’s floated through a few other threads of a “Performance Mode” vs. “Edit Mode”. I think this goes along with having an easy way to jump to the KnobSet page (like, pressing the encoder and a button at the same time), because that’s generally where you want to be while performing.
The pop-up like you describe could be an option you can turn on/off. Also in the view of the module, being able to edit a param quickly.
Showing the text value is supported in the upcoming v2.0. At least if it shows “C-4” or something like “+8 semitones” in VCV then it’ll show the same thing in MetaModule.
