Metamodule stops sending cv/ gate when cable is pluged in

Hi!

Im having a weird issue, every time i change a wire that is connected to and out jack (from metamodule / expander) to another jack (a different module) meta stops sending cv / gate in all its outputs.

Ive review all gthe wiring, all the power cables and made sure they are correctly plugged but I get the same result.

Im on the latest fw, I have the wifi expander, audio expander and button expander.

Running on a befaco case with plenty of juice.

I think there is some kind of ground issue and meta stops working, i have to reboot everytime which isnt great.

Cheers!

Hi,

It is a well lnown problem with cv expander. Changing the case resolved the problem for me. It is an hardware problem. To be sure, reove the expander to check this issue.

Best regards

Hi!

Thanks for getting back to me

Well thats not great is it? What if you cant change cases? This is happening on a befaco 104 9u case.

Ill test in another case.

Thanks!

This can happen sometimes if there is interference along the cable connecting the two modules, or a grounding issue between them and the module(s) you’re connecting to. Try re-positioning the Audio Expander and the MetaModule, plug into different spots on your power supply (usually best to plug them in as close as possible), and make sure nothing is near the cable that runs between them. If you have multiple cases, then keep the grounds between cases connected at all times (an easy way is to keep one dummy cable connecting a module in each case, and never unplug that cable).

Unfortunately it happens sometimes but usually with a little bit of moving things around it should go away.
We’re trying different ideas in firmware to detect when this happens and re-connect automatically.

Thanks for the reply and help Dan.

I’m going to test it.

Cheers

Ok, I went ahead and made the communication with the expander a little more robust, and also added a fail-safe in case it looses connection for more than a few seconds (all jacks will be treated as plugged, which helps if you have a module that only outputs if it sees the jack as patched). Also, a notification drops down to tell you that it lost connection, so if you see that then at least you know what’s going on.
It’d be helpful if you could try this out and see if it solves it, or at least diagnosis the issue.

Thanks for your help and support Dan! I’ll test asap.
